Judicious deadheading of perennials
and annuals now will reduce weeding
next spring. If you want some of your
favorite plants to reseed, allow a few of
the biggest and healthiest seedheads
to remain, but remove the rest.
Now is the tim e to sow seeds of new
perennials in your garden
some will
germinate now, others will wait until
spring. Be sure to mark newly planted
areas. In spring thin young plants and
move or give away the extras.
Start fall garden chores the easy w a y -
bit by bit. As time allows, first remove
any spent or diseased annuals and
perennials, then dig and divide any
overgrown perennials. Add new mulch
to one bed at a time.
